Happy Father's Day everyone! What a great summer day!
Doesn't Father's Day somehow send you back to when you were a kid, on these hot, lazy summer days? And you see how drastically different it is from what your child does on their hot, lazy summer days? I remember when I was a kid, we were riding bikes and running through sprinklers and blowing bubbles in the sun. Now it seems I can't get my kids away from their electronic toys and store boughten entertainment. And when we did come home, we didn't have a cupboard full of store bought snacks and bunch of pop! We made our snacks and drinks.
With all my fond memories, I wanted to revisit some of my favorites as I was young.
Ice Pops
We used to make Kool-Aid all the time, that is about all I drank besides milk. When it would get hot, we would pour the Kool-Aid into dixie cups and put an ice cream stick in each one and freeze them. Then we could take them outside and lick them to cool off. Now you can make Kool-Aid with Splenda instead to lower your family's sugar intake. Substitute 12 packs Splenda for the cup of sugar.
Bubble Blowing
When our Easter present of bubbles would run out, we made our own. Here is the super easy, super cheap recipe:
1 cup water
2 Tbsp. Joy dishsoap
1 tsp. corn syrup
Mix that up and you are ready to blow bubbles!!
*Sometimes we would do it without the corn syrup, and it worked OK too.
And here is a famous recipe from my family on super easy cookies!
Dwight's Peanut Butter Cookies
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
Mix ingredients. Roll into balls, roll in sugar, and flatten with fork. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350*.
People don't believe me that these turn out! Try it!!!
Try these out! They are all super fast, super easy and super cheap. Why would you buy these in the store! Hopefully they bring happy memories back for you too.
Your ideas are fabulous...I will continue to watch your blog. Do you make meals for others? For sale?
